sheepskin rugsSheepskin is truly a versatile and wonderful product. Did you know that sheepskin can actually be used for medical purposes? Yep, it’s true! When someone is bedridden, what’s one of the biggest complaints? Bedsores. If anyone has ever had an extended stay in a hospital bed, you know how uncomfortable it can be just lying there all day long. Now imagine if you’re recuperating at home and have to stay in bed most of the time. Bedsores are likely to form.

Sheepskin pads are known to prevent bedsores from happening. Sheepskin blankets in general are exceptionally cozy and warm for anyone, whether you’re stuck in bed or not. The medical pads are hypoallergenic, naturally flame-retardant, and will insulate against both the heat and the cold. You can place the pads on your bed, couch, or chair. They even make wheelchair pads to fit over any standard wheelchair. If a particular area of your body is feeling sore though, you can purchase a knee, heel, forearm, or elbow wrap. They also make covers for crutches. Just about everyone will be covered!

Start feeling the difference with medical sheepskin. Soon you’ll find yourself ordering sheepskin rugs and sheepskin slippers because you won’t be able to feel cozy without it.

sheepskin slippersOver the years I developed somewhat of an OCD habit with slippers. I absolutely cannot walk around my home without wearing shoes or slippers. The thought of walking around my house in just my socks is quite bothersome. Part of it has to do with owning a cat and not wanting to step in cat liter. The other part just has to do with any dirt particles in general. I keep a very clean home, but there will always be dust and minute dirt throughout the home; it’s inevitable. That sticks to your socks and then you hop into bed with those same dirty socks. The idea is dreadful, to say the least.

Another reason is that sometimes a spill might have a occurred. Whether it’s a few drops of water or juice, I don’t need wet socks either. It’s a gross mess and I don’t want to track that around the home. While slippers keep my feet toasty warm they do a pretty great job of keeping my socks dirt-free. Sheepskin slippers take care of both issues quite well. From clogs to moccasin slippers, SheepSkinTown.com offers plenty of selection for both men and women.

Stay comfy and keep socks clean with affordable sheepskin slippers!

sheepskin rugsA few weeks ago the heater in my apartment decided to stop working. The first day I wasn’t sure if it was truly broken or just on the fritz and would return to normal the following day. But when the temperature continued to plummet and I could practically see my breath, it was time to give the landlord a ring. Because of a missing part, the heater was not fixed until the following evening. Needless to say, it was freezing. I wrapped myself in so many layers of clothing and bedding that I probably just looked like a lump hidden under my bed.

Now if I had a sheepskin blanket, I probably could have gotten rid of four other layers. Nothing is more warm, cozy, and comforting than sheepskin. It will come in hand on the days when your own heater goes on the fritz. But it’s also a great way to save a bit on the heating bill. Just lower the temperature a few degrees and wrap yourself in the warmth of the blanket. SheepskinTown.com  offers blankets in several different colors to match your home’s style.

Also look for sheepskin rugs and sheepskin slippers to keep you warm on these frigid days.

Cleaning Sheepskin Rugs

December 16th, 2011 | Posted by daniela in sheepskin rugs - (0 Comments)

sheepskin rugSheepskin rugs are soft and beautiful but they’re also white. What if you accidentally spilled something, such as red wine, on your sheepskin rug? Act fast to soak up as much of the staining liquid as possible. Luckily, sheep’s wool is resistant to stains. Blot the stain with cold water. Then get a wool shampoo, dish detergent, or other mild soap to get the stain out. Move inwards, blotting continually.

If the stain has dribbled, consider treating it with soap and then setting it into the washing machine. After soaking in the machine for an hour it should be pretty much clean. Don’t put it in the dryer. Let it air dry in an area without direct sunlight, which can damage the wool fibers. If need be, wash it again. And if you can still see the stain after all of these home remedies, it may be time to seek professional help for your sheepskin rug.

The stain-resistant fibers of a real sheepskin rug should allow you to eventually clean it so it looks brand new. And since a real sheepskin rug is resilient enough over time to always look fresh and soft, you don’t have to worry about washing too hard.

Biblical Sheepskin Rugs

December 6th, 2011 | Posted by daniela in sheepskin rugs - (0 Comments)

sheepskin rugLike a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which come up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins and none is barren among them. This line is from the Song of Songs, one of the most revered books in the bible. Yes, sheep are a very biblical animal. They are grouped and docile, so that they easily follow when led. Sheep are symbolically full of meaning. They are pure and innocent, largely due to their white color and easy demeanor. They are easily frightened too. They symbolize a simple, pastoral life, full of pleasantries. And they are great for sheepskin rugs, which are an ancient luxury, much like gold rings set with beryl, pomegranates and flowers.

Sheepskin rugs were long used as a way to appreciate the comforts of a life in the wild. Wool is hypoallergenic, it resists static electricity as well as fire. When a sheep would die in the olden days, shepherds used the pelt of the animal for coats and sheepskin boots but also as sheepskin rugs. A sheepskin rug is something everyone would benefit from. It is so soft, so natural, so old and long associated with human use that it is in the oldest and most popular book ever written.

Sheepskin Slippers Thoughts

November 30th, 2011 | Posted by daniela in sheepskin rugs - (0 Comments)

sheepskin slippersTo put my feet into the fuzzy decadence of sheepskin slippers is enough to send my mind reeling to the hills of New Zealand, where I could be a farm girl, shepherding my flock, staff in hand, urging them onward to greener pastures,  over the hilly terrain, overlooking the ocean, shearing them come late spring when the wildflowers bloom, and then using their wool to knit winter’s clothing at night, as the sun descends between the high mountains.

My sheepskin slippers are so soft, so rugged. They conjure memories of being on my grandfather’s farm on an early spring morning when the shadows were still long and the grass dewy, when two softly bleating lambs nursed underneath a ewe’s wolly flank, their small lightly woolen hooves toeing the sodden earth. And I, just a child, was struck by this scene of nature, the purity and innocence, the relative disregard these small creatures had for anyone or anything else, as I stood ten meters distant, their mother satisfied in her role, knowing little else despite having cycled through at least eight seasons, her wooly brow partially obscuring her weak vision.

And every time I put on my sheepskin hats, or my sheepskin slippers I remember it all, and it comes back to me in waves.

sheepskin rugYeah, medieval times were barbaric and most people didn’t live past 35, but at least they got to wear capes. Think of how warm it would be to wear a sheepskin rug on your back. Not only would you look and feel like a warrior or a Viking, but you would know about serious warmth.

At least we can wear sheepskin in other ways today. Sheepskin boots are rugged and warm. Sheepskin hats make you look like you know the struggles of Siberia, which gives you props when walking down a cold windy city street and everyone is bundled up with their shoulders high and their chins low and you’re bouncing around like it’s summer. And, whereas most gloves, even those with thick inner linings, leave your fingers cold and numb, sheepskin gloves are on another plane.

Sheepskin is rugged, yet luxurious. It is a natural fiber and one that has been around for thousands of years, way before medieval times. Today it’s just as practical and popular as ever. Start small: choose sheepskin slippers or sheepskin gloves. Pretty soon, you’ll realize how great they are and want a sheepskin hat. And who knows, before long you may even want a sheepskin cape.

Lanolin and Baby Sheepskin

November 21st, 2011 | Posted by daniela in sheepskin rugs - (0 Comments)

sheepskin rugLanolin is a waxy substance that constitutes anywhere from 5-25% of the weight of sheep’s wool. This keeps the sheepskin dry and protect the wool from the ravages of harsh mountainous climates. Most of the lanolin used by humans is found in domestic sheep wool.

In most situations lanolin is used for hygienic purposes. It softens skin and keeps it moist.

Lanolin is a major reason a sheepskin rug and sheepskin boots are so comfortable. It keeps the wool in good shape for years and allows it to stay curly and soft. Lanolin is a nice word, too. It sounds so soft and comfortable. Since most people don’t know what it is they think it’s baby lamb’s wool but it’s not nearly that savage. You can use it morally. Lanolin will make your skin softer. It is what has made your sheepskin hats and sheepskin slippers so warm.

Embrace lanolin. Tell people about it.  Show them its majesty. Then make use of it by buying a sheepskin rug. Or sheepskin slippers. Or baby sheepskin for your little one to stay warm and dry in on cold winter nights. Tell him about lanolin as he ages and use it to keep his little body smooth.

SHEEPSKIN SLIPPERSSheepskin is a fiber of luxury. Just imagine waking in your bed with a baby sheepskin draped over it as a comforter to keep you warm through the frore Wyoming nights. You swing your feet out of bed, stretch your arms and wiggle your toes in your curly sheepskin rug. Stand and bend over to get the blood flowing. Rub the sleep out of your eyes and put your feet into their sheepskin slippers. Head to the kitchen to make some coffee and some eggs, and even though you can hear the wind outside, you feel safe, draped in sheepskin.

After you’ve showered and dressed, it’s time to brave the elements. But, you’re prepared. You have sheepskin boots, sheepskin gloves and sheepskin hats. Your whole body is toasty and comfortable. The curly fur of the sheepskin caresses your skin and even though it’s eight degrees outside you don’t feel any discomfort. All that sheepskin is keeping the most susceptible parts of your body protected.

Even if you don’t live in climates quite as harsh as Wyoming, sheepskin slippers are a definite luxury item. Should you decide to invest you’ll immediately feel all of the benefits from using nature’s warmest fiber.

baby sheepskinHave you ever known the pleasure of a sheepskin rug? Sheepskin is naturally designed to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter, which is why wool is so popular in rugged cold countries with grassy hills.

Sheepskin has many uses. From rugs to boots to gloves to slippers, there are plenty of ways to use this luxurious fiber. Australian sheepskin is some of the best, which is why Uggs are so popular. Natural sheepskin is environmentally friendly and is much finer than any synthetic sheepskin.

Because sheepskin is so practical, it has been used for thousands of years and is in part what led to the domestication of sheep; sheep products include milk and sheep meat, which is known as mutton from older ovines, and lamb when from younger ones. As one of the oldest domesticated animals, sheep have had a rich symbolic and symbiotic relationship with humans throughout history.
